Course / Workshop Content
Who is this for? This workshop is for anyone who wishes to shift their focus beyond a mental health diagnosis and expand their self-narrative to build a whole, positive identity. Join us for this two-part workshop which will helps to move beyond the label of a mental health diagnosis and redefine our sense of self through strengths, values, and personal identity strategies. The course focuses on the importance of developing and maintaining a positive self-identity while managing a mental health condition. The course acknowledges that a diagnosis can impact the ways we view ourselves and have a negative impact on our confidence. However, we can shift our focus from the diagnosis to our individual strengths and build up a positive sense of self and positive self-beliefs to navigate these new unchartered waters. What will I learn? You will learn to view yourself holistically, explore various aspects of your identity, and develop personal strengths, relationships, and values that go beyond the diagnosis. We will work on acceptance of a new beginning, rather than focusing our limitations, to support and maintain a positive identity and self-image. In Part one you will explore values and strengths and expand your knowledge of who you are as opposed to what you do. In part two we will reflect on our own narrative and we will look for new opportunities rather than focusing our limitations, to support and maintain a positive identity and self-image. Part two focuses on deeper self-reflection through narrative exploration, creating new possibilities for the future, and fostering a strong sense of purpose and positive identity beyond any label or diagnosis you or someone you support, may have had. How can I use what I learn? You will be able to use what you learn in your everyday interactions with the world and others. By focusing on your strengths and values and creating a positive narrative of yourself you will be more grounded on who you are. Receiving a diagnosis can be difficult to deal with, although some will find relief in knowing what the root cause of their discomfort is, others will find difficult coming to terms with it. Either way, receiving a diagnosis leaves a mark in our sense of self, this course will give you the confidence and strength to move forwards and embrace yourself wholly.
