Course / Workshop Content
Who is this for? This engaging two-part course is designed for anyone who wants to explore the complexities of body image and learn how to cultivate a healthier, more positive self-view. Whether you are looking to improve your own body image or support someone else on their journey, this course offers valuable insights and practical tools. What will I learn? Workshop 1: Understanding Body Image Evidence suggests that body image is not just a superficial concern but is deeply connected to mental health and that poor body image can lead to anxiety, depression, and eating disorders, so it is important to address this and improve our self-perception. In this first part we will look at: Defining Body Image: We will start by unpacking what body image truly means, distinguishing between healthy and unhealthy perspectives. Development of Body Image: We will look at how body image is formed from a young age and influenced by various factors such as media, culture, and personal experiences. Influences and Impact: We will examine the societal, familial, and psychological influences that shape our body perceptions and how these things can positively or negatively affect our self-esteem and overall well-being. Workshop 2: Building a Positive Body Image Research indicates that individuals who engage in positive body image practices experience improved mental health, greater life satisfaction, and a stronger sense of self. By incorporating these strategies into your daily life, you can begin to transform how you see yourself and how you feel in your own skin. In this second session, through interactive discussions and practical exercises, we will focus on strategies to improve self-image. You will have the opportunity to practise some techniques used to promote a more positive and empowering relationship with your body, helping you build confidence and self-acceptance. In this second session, we will explore and discuss: Interactive Strategies: Engage in discussions and hands-on activities designed to help you recognize and challenge negative body image thoughts. Practical Techniques: You will practice evidence-based techniques such as cognitive restructuring, mindfulness, and self-compassion exercises that have been shown to enhance body positivity and self-acceptance. Empowering Relationships with Your Body: Learn how to foster a healthier relationship by focusing on its abilities rather than its appearance, increasing confidence and self-worth
